Maatman Restoration is a residential design and remodeling firm based in Victoria, Minnesota. The company was founded by Micah Maatman to help homeowners craft beautiful homes that reflect their lifestyle and provide a backdrop for a lifetime of memories.

Our goal was to create a brand and website design for Maatman Restoration that looked professional, intentional, and infused with personality. We wanted to keep the spirit of Micah’s past iconography, while updating it to reflect his craftsmanship + artistry. I did a lot of research into craftsman era design to use it into Micah’s branding, as his favorite homes to work on are from this time period. I created a logo that is equal parts handmade and professional, and used craftsman era window panes as a source of inspiration for patterns throughout the brand. I transformed his previous monoline icons into handdrawn, professionally sketched designs. The color palette was from a request from Micah directly— he felt strongly that desaturated blues and ochre were the way to go for his brand, and after research, I had to agree.

We started the web design process with a content strategy session, where we discussed elaborating on his business practices to show his artistry through his descriptions as well as images of his work. Micah used the ideas we came up with in this session to work with a copywriter to create persuasive, well-written content for his site. From there, it was easy for me to design to emphasize the most important parts of the copy and to highlight Micah’s incredible design work.
